The challenges facing youth today look different from those nearly two decades ago. Access to basic resources remains important, but access to opportunity has become equally critical. Exposure to technology, career pathways, and new ways of thinking can shape how a young person sees their future.
The Crockett Innovation Expo (CIX) was created with that in mind. It’s a continuation of the same mission, approached in a way that reflects where things are headed.
What is the Crockett Innovation Expo?
Launched in 2024 with about 300 middle and high school students, the Crockett Innovation Expo is a youth-led technology and innovation experience that introduces students to STEM in an engaging, accessible, and authentic way.
Since its first year, CIX has grown to more than 400 participants from seven summer camps across Broward County, with over 500 youth expected in 2026, including a new group of elementary-aged students.
Hosted at Nova Southeastern University’s Alvin Sherman Library, with expanded sessions at the Alan B. Levan NSU Broward Center of Innovation, the event places students in environments built for real-world innovation and entrepreneurship, from early-stage ideas to scalable solutions.

17 Years. 30,000 Families.
And a Legacy that Lives On.
For 17 years, the Crockett Foundation’s Community Health Fair (CHF) was a cornerstone of Pompano Beach — giving more than 30,000 families access to healthcare, school supplies, and support when they needed it most. For many, it was the only place they could turn.
The Fair has ended, but its spirit hasn’t. The Foundation carries that same commitment forward through programs that meet young people where they are and prepare them for what comes next.
Learning by Doing
At CIX, students are encouraged to get involved from the start. They explore fields such as robotics, esports, drone technology, coding, web and graphic design, urban planning, and forensics through hands-on experiences that make these subjects feel real rather than abstract.
They build, test ideas, and collaborate to solve problems. In many cases, they also learn from one another, with youth leading sessions and teaching peers in areas such as drones, coding, and esports. That dynamic fosters a more open, comfortable environment where curiosity can take the lead.
The event also features two major competitions, a hackathon and an esports tournament, giving participants the chance to apply what they’ve learned in a more competitive, high-energy setting. With more than $1,800 in prizes and giveaways, students are encouraged to think creatively, collaborate, and push their ideas further.
